Liverpool v Brighton: Team news
Sam Williams @SamWiIliams Adam Lallana is ‘as fit as possible’ and may return to action in Liverpool’s final Premier League game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion, but Sadio Mane is a doubt.
Jürgen Klopp suggested during his pre-match press conference that the former, who has not played since sustaining a hamstring injury six weeks ago, could feature at Anfield on Sunday.
Lallana has ‘trained normally’ for the last week or so, according to the boss.
“The perfect thing now would be to start with minutes; we’ll see if we have the opportunity to do that. But [he is] as fit as possible, I would say,” Klopp noted.
The manager also confirmed there is ‘nothing new’ to report in terms of Emre Can ‘s fitness, meaning the No.23 remains unavailable due to a back injury.
But Klopp later revealed a new concern over Mane’s condition when he spoke to the national newspapers after his press conference at Melwood on Friday.
“We will see,” he said of the Senegal international’s chances of facing the Seagulls. “It is not the same injury. It’s a fresh problem.”
Joe Gomez joined Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) and Joel Matip (thigh) in being sidelined for the rest of the campaign after undergoing ankle surgery earlier in the week.
Brighton’s only absentee is Steve Sidwell (back), with Klopp’s opposite number Chris Hughton anticipating a testing afternoon against the Reds, who know a point would suffice to secure a top-four finish.
“We will have to defend really well on Sunday at Anfield to get something from the game,” said the Seagulls boss.
“Their front three is one of the best in Premier League history. Attacking combinations in the past have generally been about a front two – so to be talking about three is different and they’ve been outstanding.” team news

“You see some images of me talking with the coach. We can disagree but he is still the manager and I am the player.

“It’s good. He is the coach. He decides and I accept and I respond on the pitch.

In an interview with ESPN , Michael Carrick failed to mention Tottenham when asked about the Reds’ title challengers, and specifically the rise of Man City.
“It’s been a big change since I came. In 2006 when I came, we beat them at the Etihad – I don’t think it was called the Etihad then – Edwin [van der Sar] saved a penalty and we won 1-0 and that pretty much clinched us the league, first year around.

“Now they’re up there challenging every year, like ourselves, Chelsea and Arsenal.” 10:29 Mkhitaryan slams Sanchez suggestions
Former United winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan has slammed the suggestion he was merely a makeweight in the deal which saw Alexis Sanchez move to Old Trafford.
He told FourFourTwo: ‘When I heard I could swap Manchester United for Arsenal, I said ‘yes I want to do that’. ‘I wasn’t evening thinking twice or thinking that maybe I don’t have to go. I said ‘no I want to go. I want to have more playing time. I want to enjoy playing attacking, offensive football’. I made the right decision coming here. ‘I didn’t’ come here to replace anyone. Everyone keeps saying that I’ve been part of a deal for Alexis Sanchez but it’s not true because he was running down his contract. ‘If he didn’t choose to come to Manchester United, he would have stayed at Arsenal until the summer.
‘Everything was up to me. I’m not saying I was important in this aspect but I want everyone to understand I wasn’t made part of the deal for Alexis Sanchez. ‘I came to Arsenal because Arsene Wenger wanted me. It’s not because he wanted to replace me. ‘We’re different players, we’re different characters, we have different abilities and skills. ‘I will try my best for the club to achieve as much as we can. I want to leave my name in Arsenal as a legend because it’s not easy to come to a team where you have been dreaming of playing for since you were a child.’ 10:12 Home comfort
This stat certainly bodes well ahead of tomorrow – Watford have never won in 10 top-flight visits to Old Trafford (D2 L8), losing each of their last six in a row. 09:51 Noble laughs off Pogba clash

It was Noble’s second attempt at defusing the situation after he previously spoke kindly about Pogba in the aftermath of the match.
“The funny thing is I’m one of Paul’s biggest fans,” he said . “My son only walked out with me today so he could see Paul Pogba.
“Paul gets a lot more stick than he deserves. He’s at one of the biggest clubs in the world and gets a lot of pressure on his shoulders. you can tell he really wants to win. I said to him after there were no hard feelings, it happens. 09:41 Super Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez has had a hand in six goals in his four Premier League games against Watford (3 goals, 3 assists). It remains to be seen if he will feature tomorrow, but Jose Mourinho certainly has an ace off the bench. 09:27 Ferdinand: Club rivalry harmed England’s chances
United great Rio Ferdinand believes the Reds intense domestic rivalries hampered England’s success at major tournaments.
‘It overshadowed things. It killed that England team, that generation,’ he told The Times.
‘One year we would have been fighting Liverpool to win the league, another year it would be Chelsea.
‘So I was never going to walk into the England dressing room and open up to Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, John Terry or Joe Cole at Chelsea, or Steven Gerrard or Jamie Carragher at Liverpool because of the fear they would take something back to their club and use it against us.
‘I didn’t realise that what I was doing was hurting England at the time. I was so engrossed, so obsessed with winning with Man United – nothing else mattered.’ Ferdinand won six Premier League titles with United 09:24 Beckham ‘heartbroken’ as sons shun football
David Beckham says he has been left feeling heartbroken after realising none of his sons would follow in his footballing footsteps.
