AMARILLO, TX (CBSDFW.COM/CBS LOCAL) — A pregnant pit bull – described as aggressive by her owners – was euthanized last month while giving birth. Now a Facebook Post last week describing the incident is sparking a debate online.
In the social media post that has been shared and commented on thousands of times, Dacia Anderson, an Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare (AAMW) volunteer described what she called “completely appalling and unacceptable.”
“I have held on to this post, hoping that I would not have to share, but I cannot seem to get anywhere. Today, I am coming to the public for support,” Anderson continued.
Richard Havens, Director of AAMW told the press they made an “unfortunate but necessary decision.” That according to KAMR / KCIT TV.
As a volunteer, Anderson said she interacted with the pit bull. “I went into her kennel to take a picture for the [Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society] Facebook “In the Facility” album. She was friendly, but scared, and jumped up on me for comfort. I looked at her band and noted she had been an owner surrender the previous day,” Anderson said in her post.
Later, after noticing the pit bull had begun delivering her pups, Anderson said she met resistance from officials after trying to get the dog some help. ” Unfortunately (and to my surprise), I was met with resistance from an [AAMW] employee when I attempted to enter G building a bit later while looking for a new volunteer,” said Anderson.
Director Havens said the dog was reported aggressive when surrendered by the owners according to the television station.
“The owner of the dog in question contacted 911 to state they had a vicious animal that was theirs. We responded after hours we took the animal into custody and then the following morning we ended up euthanizing it due to the nature of the call and the behaviors the animal exhibited,” Havens told the station.
“I am aware that euthanasia is a reality at the shelter. I am well aware of the overpopulation problems. I am also well aware that [AAMW] has to make hard decisions,” Anderson said online. “However, I feel that this action is the exact opposite of a what “the most humane community in the Panhandle of Texas” would do,” Anderson continued.
“Her last moments, while she lay dying, were spent still trying to clean her newly birthed puppies. Their words, not mine,” said Anderson.
“It’s unfortunate this had to happen, but it was the right call,” Havens told KAMR/KCIT TV. Havens said the dog would not have been a candidate for adoption or foster care according to the station. He said that it was a matter of public safety.
He also said that part of being a responsible pet owner is making sure your animals are spayed or neutered and that they are socialized well. He said that if this dog’s owner had followed these recommendations, this incident would not have occurred.
“She was not euthanized before she went into labor, she was not euthanized after, she was euthanized as she was delivering puppies,” Anderson told the station. “So aggressive or not, I don’t know where you can excuse this or say this is why we did it,” she continued.
Anderson said she will no longer volunteer at AAMW. Follow Us

Ellen Adarna a no-show at child abuse hearing

Ellen Adarna a no-show at child abuse hearing ABS-CBN News Posted at Jun 04 2018 05:42 PM
Share A post shared by Ellen Adarna (@maria.elena.adarna) on Oct 2, 2017 at 10:11pm PDT
Ellen Adarna failed to show up Monday at the first hearing for a child abuse and cybercrime complaint filed against her, in connection with a “paparazzi” incident in May where she publicly accused a minor, on social media, of taking photos of her at a restaurant without her permission.
The case was filed by Myra Abo Santos, the mother of the 17-year-old girl whose photo was uploaded by Adarna in her Instagram Stories, after the actress did not respond to the family’s request for a public apology over the accusation. On Monday, the preliminary investigation into the case was held at the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office. The Santos family, accompanied by their legal counsel, were seen at the venue. Adarna, however, failed to attend the hearing.
In a statement to ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe, Santos family lawyer Atty. Arnold Labay said the hearing was reset to June 11 due to Adarna’s absence. The first preliminary investigation hearing already ended, no sign of Ellen Adarna and her counsel. The investigation prosecutor rescheduled another hearing and would like to give Adarna’s camp another chance to answer the case filed against her. pic.twitter.com/9TOuqbOGOe — MJ Felipe (@mjfelipe) June 4, 2018
“Santos family would just wait for the child abuse and cybercrime cases to take [their] due course,” the statement added.
The hearing on Monday came four days after Adarna’s father, hotelier Alan Adarna, passed away due to cardiac arrest. The interment of Mr. Adarna is set on June 8 in Cebu City. Ellen Adarna’s father passes away
The legal battle and the death of her father are the latest in a series of headlines about Adarna in recent months. Despite her hiatus from showbiz, Adarna has been the subject of intrigues and speculation, in relation to her relationship with actor John Lloyd Cruz, with whom she is reportedly expecting a first child. Robert Kennedy: What if US presidential hopeful had not been killed? – BBC News

A new Kennedy in the spotlight
Carter and Clinton were Democrats who moved away from traditional LBJ-style government programmes, he says. And they wanted to show that they were making government smaller, not bigger. This meant they were less interventionist in personal choices about issues like gun ownership and local control of schools.
“Historical conjecture is a tricky business full of uncertainty, but history is ultimately about causality – and we value historical causes differently because of the ‘what-ifs’ involved,” says Ben Wright at the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History that houses Ronald Bennett’s photographic archive.
“Events like the assassination of Dr King and Senator Kennedy matter precisely because we intuit so many significant possibilities for the trajectory of American history had things turned out differently.” Image copyright Getty Images Image caption Family gather at Robert Kennedy’s grave, 11 years later
Whether Robert Kennedy could have kept the Democratic Party together, let alone secured its nomination in 1968, will always remain debatable – but some who were there with Kennedy when he was shot remain convinced his unique political talents could have taken him to the presidency.
“His personality and appearance generated an inspiring figure to people and an almost desperate desire to restore things that were taken away from the country with the death of his brother and the Vietnam War,” says Jules Witcover, a journalist covering Kennedy’s campaign.
“Nobody in the white community had been able to establish a rapport with the black community before Robert Kennedy.” Media playback is unsupported on your device Media caption The divided visions of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King
Others, however, note the significant political and societal odds that were stacked against Kennedy.
“By the end of the 1960s, the forces that were swelling up against the Great Society, which was an extension of the New Deal of the 1930s, were going to defeat whoever the Democrats put up,” says HW Brands, historian and author.
“Americans were disillusioned and angered by the violence of the 1960s, and by the failure of the Democratic governments of John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson to take Vietnam to a successful conclusion.”
Brands notes how also the Civil Rights movement had largely achieved its legislative aims, and so if either Martin Luther King Jr or Robert Kennedy had lived they would have had to battle the great American conundrum of economic inequality and poverty that has thwarted all others. Image copyright Getty Images Image caption Kennedy meets voters in Harlem, New York, in 1964
“That’s a much tougher nut to deal with going off the last 50 years of American politics,” Mr Brands says.
“You can repeal laws against blacks, but can you mandate economic equality? Nobody’s figured out how to do it… for a society that is organised economically along capitalist lines.”
The whole experience of his campaign and what he stood for remains a milestone for the Democratic party, says Witcover, who went on to write 1968: The Year the Dream Died and a book about Kennedy’s campaign.
The Democratic National Convention that followed Kennedy’s death in August descended into violence and farce, delivering a blow the Democrats have been reeling from ever since.
Now it is the turn of the Republican Party to go through an identity crisis as it grapples with the impact of Trump’s unorthodox approach. Image copyright Getty Images Image caption Mugshots of Sirhan Sirhan
“The modern comparison with 1968 is 2016,” Mr Wright says. “In many ways 2016 doesn’t hold a candle to 1968, but both were characterised by political upheaval, social divisions, racial issues and a general perception of decline.”
Both Bennet and Witcover remember Kennedy warmly as a politician who had a Midas touch with people from all walks of life.
“He was the last politician who came from a background of Franklin Roosevelt-influenced social welfare policies who could connect with rural voters,” Mr Suri says.
“What ended in the late 1960s and early 1970s was a set of policies of expanding rights, expanding government services and assistance for those in need, and the backlash against that was facilitated by the absence of effective figures like Robert Kennedy.” Related Topics

Idaho teacher accused of feeding live puppy to turtle faces charge

Idaho teacher accused of feeding live puppy to turtle faces charge

Idaho teacher accused of feeding live puppy to turtle faces charge FOX News 53 mins ago Robert Gearty © Provided by Fox News Junior high teacher Robert Crosland faces charge for allegedly feeding a puppy to a snapping turtle in front of students.
An Idaho teacher accused of feeding a sick puppy to a snapping turtle in front of several middle school students was charged Friday with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Preston Junior High School science teacher Robert Crosland faces up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine if convicted. The school is in rural Preston, where the 2004 teen cult classic film “Napoleon Dynamite” was set.
The turtle was “humanely euthanized” after being seized, EastIdahoNews.com reported Friday. The reptiles are considered invasive species in Idaho.
The story made headlines around the world, and many demanded that Crosland be charged, the news outlet reported.
SCIENCE TEACHER FED LIVE PUPPY TO SNAPPING TURTLE IN FRONT OF STUDENTS, WITNESSES SAY
Crosland allegedly fed the puppy to the turtle in front of three boys after school hours on March 7. The mother of two of them told a local newspaper at the time that the story had been blown out of proportion, EastIdahoNews.com reported.
“If anyone has a right to be upset, it is me,” Farahlyn Hansen said, according to the news outlet. “I am not upset. I felt like it was the more humane thing for Robert to do than to just leave it (the puppy) to die. … The puppy was dying.”
Preston School District 201 Superintendent Marc Gee called Crosland’s actions “a regrettable circumstance,” KTVB-TV reported.
Crosland faces arraignment at a later date.
Attempts to reach Crosland at the school Friday were not successful, the Associated Press reported.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

MSM Calls Lopsided 7-2 Ruling Over Gay Cake ‘Narrow Win’

MSM Calls Lopsided 7-2 Ruling Over Gay Cake ‘Narrow Win’ Fake news misrepresenting clear ruling in favor of First Amendment Infowars.com – June 4, 2018 Comments Image Credits: flickr, blmurch .
After the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in favor of the Colorado baker who refused to serve a gay couple, the mainstream corporate media opted instead to call it a “narrow” win.
Several news outlets, including USA Today, Reuters, and NBC have all decided to call a definitive 7-2 Supreme Court ruling “narrow,” when only liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsberg ruled against the baker who exercised his First Amendment right and defended his religious liberty.
“But the opinion was a narrow one, applying to the specific facts of this case only,” NBC reported . “It gave no hint as to how the court might decide future cases involving florists, bakers, photographers and other business owners who have cited religious and free-speech objections when refusing to serve gay and lesbian customers in the wake of the Supreme Court’s 2015 same-sex marriage decision.”
The mainstream media is misleading the public by using “narrow” in their headlines because the case itself was clearly decided. Just because the scope of the ruling doesn’t extend beyond the facts of the case doesn’t make the decision itself narrow, which their headlines imply.
Justice Kennedy explained the ruling, saying baker Jack Philips’ religious liberty was violated in 2012 by the state commission in ruling against his decision to adhere to his religious views by refusing service to a gay couple.
“The neutral and respectful consideration to which Phillips was entitled was compromised here,” Justice Kennedy wrote on behalf of the majority.
“The Civil Rights Commission’s treatment of his case has some elements of a clear and impermissible hostility toward the sincere religious beliefs that motivated his objection.” Get Informed Sign up for our free newsletter so that you can get around the censors no matter how much they try to block our information. Gaza violence: Thousands attend funeral for Palestinian medic – BBC News

Gaza violence: Thousands attend funeral for Palestinian medic – BBC News

Report End of Twitter post by @ochaopt
Israel’s military said its troops along the border had been attacked by militants with gunfire and a grenade on Friday.
It said in a written statement that it would investigate the death of Ms Najar.
“The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) constantly works to draw operational lessons and reduce the number of casualties in the area of the Gaza Strip security fence. Unfortunately, the Hamas terror organisation deliberately and methodically places civilians in danger,” it said.
Hours after the funeral two rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel, the IDF said, triggering air raid sirens in Israeli villages near the border.
One rocket was intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system and the other apparently landed inside Gaza, a statement said.
Israeli warplanes later attacked at least two suspected militant sites in the southern Gaza Strip, reports based on witness accounts said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
At the UN on Friday, Israel’s close ally, the US, vetoed a Kuwaiti-drafted Security Council resolution condemning Israel’s use of force against Palestinians.
It drafted its own resolution that blamed Hamas for the violence and upheld Israel’s right to self defence, but the draft failed to win any support in the 15-member council.
A spokesman said hundreds of people required treatment for live ammunition wounds and that the local healthcare system was “stressed and overburdened”. Related Topics

MANILA — With tension-filled and emotional weeks leading up to its finale, the second season of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” concluded Saturday with monster ratings, scoring more than thrice the viewership of its rival program.
ABS-CBN’s “It’s Showtime,” which airs the singing competition as a flagship segment, garnered a national TV rating of 31% on June 2, according to data from Kantar Media — 10 percentage points higher than the program’s average rating of 20% for the month of May.

Dubbed “Ang Huling Tapatan,” the finale of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” saw six finalists battling it out to become the newest champion of the revived singing competition that started in the 1950’s.
Janine Berdin, a 16-year-old student from Cebu, ultimately clinched the top prize of P2 million, house and lot, and management contract, among others, after a series of performances that would go viral online.
Her winning piece, a medley of Bamboo hits, similarly trended on YouTube, as did her name in the worldwide list of most talked about topics on Twitter.

A man was left with a giant splinter this week after his paraglider crashed into a forest.
And by ‘giant splinter’, we mean he was literally skewered by a tree branch.
Ivan Krasouski had been flying near the village of Loshany in Belarus when a strap snapped on his paraglider and he lost control, falling into woodland.
Shocking pictures show how a tree branch impaled into his shoulder as he crashed.
Rescuers were later forced to cut him free from the wreckage of his machine – but could not free him from the giant splinter. Speaking to local news stations, he said: ‘I was flying and crashed onto pine trees.
‘I [remember] thinking: “I fell so softly, all is okay”. But as I went to stand up and go, something held me back.
‘I looked and it was a giant log there.
‘I tore my shirt and there was a branch in my arm, thick as a watermelon.’ Rescuers were later forced to cut him free from the wreckage of his machine – but could not free him from the giant splinter. ‘My classmate arrived. He works as a rescuer,’ he said.

‘If we take it away, you’ll bleed to death.
‘I was like – “I am Groot!’ And I went to the ambulance with this log embedded in me.’
Doctors later managed to remove the log and Ivan is now recovering. Advertisement

Dozens dead as Volcan de Fuego erupts in Guatemala | News | Al Jazeera

At least 25 people have been reported killed and 300 injured, after a volcano erupted in Guatemala , spewing ash and lava over the surrounding area, the country’s disaster management agency has said.
It was feared the death toll could climb even higher because there were communities that could not be accessed by Sunday evening, Sergio Cabanas, Conred agency’s general secretary, said.
The dead included a Conred employee and at least three children, officials said.
The army said it had evacuated 3,100 people from around the volcano, 70km south-west of Guatemala City, and posted pictures of soldiers carrying children covered in ashes from houses.
President Jimmy Morales visited Conred headquarters on Sunday evening and later following a cabinet meeting declared a state of emergency in the departments (the states) of Chimaltenango, Sacatepequez and Escuintla.

— The Associated Press (@AP) June 4, 2018 Al Jazeera’s David Mercer, reporting from Guatemala City, said that the volcano remains in “eruptive phase” and rescuers have scaled down the operation at nightfall on Sunday because of safety concerns.
A video posted by the Guatemalan news site Diario La Hora showed an elderly female survivor giving first-hand testimony following the eruption.

— Diario La Hora (@lahoragt) June 3, 2018 The ashfall has also forced the capital city’s La Aurora International Airport to shut down.
While the vicinity of the volcano is sparsely populated by farming villages, the ashfall is has affected an area with over a million and a half people, Mercer said.
‘Volcano of fire’ The eruption of the 3,763-metre Volcan de Fuego – meaning “volcano of fire” in Spanish – was the most powerful in recent years, according to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh).
A September 2012 eruption of the volcano saw 10,000 people evacuated, while another in February 2015 forced the closure of the capital’s main airport.
Pictures on social media showed residents fleeing from lava and local roads, buildings and trees covered in a layer of ash, while the smoke clouds reached six kilometres above sea level.
Twenty people had to be treated in hospital for burns including at least six children, the health ministry said.
Historical records have documented the volcano’s eruptions back to 1531.
Apart from the Fuego volcano, there are two other active volcanos in Guatemala. One of them, Pacaya, is just 20 kilometers from Guatemala City.
